Bristol Sketches

Had a great time at Bristol met up with a load of cool comics people and sketched solidly for two days! Here are some of them, think the Juno and Winona Ryder pic are my faves even if the likenesses aren't too good. A big thanks to everyone who wanted one.

Manga Studio and sketch

Really trying to do everything in Manga Studio. I still can't quite get it to the final stage though. Think it's that MS or the Cintiq (or probably me) still aren't quite accurate enough for inks. The last 2 panels are me really trying to take it to the last stage but they just look too heavy and clumsy in places. I'm going to print it out blueline and ink by hand.

Digi Painting and Sketchbook stuff

A couple more bits. Started another digital painting may take it further at somepoint.

Digi Painting

Really want to get better at digital painting, think I have quite a way to go. Never really learnt to paint by hand have only really done it with copic markers and always over lineart. This was based on a pic of the girl from Breaking Bad. I've added a texture layer at the end and also did a quick unsharp mask filter to define the strokes a little. One thing I've noticed is that it's even harder to know when you're done than lineart!

More Sketchbook stuff.

Haven't posted much for a while so here are a few pages and a couple of life drawings.

10thology Step by Step

Here's a breakdown of how I did the 10thology pinup.

I based it on an old sketch. I scanned this in and quickly worked up a background in Manga Studio. Using the concentric circle and one point perspective rulers this was a doddle. I printed the whole thing out in a light orange as I wanted to try and replicate my sketchbook style and see if I could take it on to a slightly more finished look. The drawing went quite smoothly but I messed up the face a little. I drew a new one and patched it in in photoshop. I also went back to Manga Studio to do the spaceship. I set the greywash drawing layer to multiply and coloured underneath. I didn't add the spaceship till last and coloured it on a new layer.

Cardiff Comics Expo

Here's a couple of sketches I did today at a preview for the Cardiff Comics Expo. It's on next Saturday and I should be there all day sketching. Ticket sales have gone really well so they may do a 2 day event next time.
